Library Services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Patrons
The library currently employs one student who is studying ASL, Hannah, to assist our Deaf and Hard of Hearing patrons. Reference assistance in ASL is available at the library Reference Office on the 1st floor. Hannah's hours are posted but are subject to change. The library also employs Nicholas Coleman, B.A. in American Sign Language, at the Circulation Desk.
To schedule an appointment, please Ask a Librarian or call 409-880-7264 (Toll free: 1-866-375-5565).
If your needs warrant a professional sign language interpreter, or you need an interpreter outside the hours listed, please email the Communication Access Coordinator or contact the Disability Resource Center prior to visiting the library.
Library Services for Blind or Low Vision Patrons
There are two computer stations that are reserved for blind and low-vision patrons and are equipped with accessibility software. The computers are located in front of the Reference Office on the 1st floor of the library. Please ask the library staff to log you in if you need assistance. Each computer has two software programs installed, MAGic screen-magnifier and JAWS screen-reader, that are compatible with most applications installed on the PC.
Accessible Materials and Services
Materials that need to be photocopied or scanned for accessibility purposes will be made free of charge. Please visit the library's Print-Scan-Copy-Fax webpage for more information.
If you require assistance obtaining a book or other materials, please go to the Circulation Desk on the 1st floor of the library, phone (409) 880-7257, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
