Using Books and Other Materials

Friends of the Library may check out books from the library.

  • You may check out up to fifty books.

  • You can keep books for three weeks. You will be charged fines for overdue books.

  • You may renew a book (check it out again) unless another patron has requested it.

  • You may renew a book by bringing it to the library.

  • You may renew a book by accessing My Account.

  • Other materials:

    • Government Documents materials (available on the second floor) have variable check out restrictions. Please inquire when you use them.

    • Media Services materials may not be checked out.

    • Periodicals/Reserves (i.e. journals, magazines, and newspapers):

      • Current issues (available from the Periodicals/Reserves Desk on the second floor) may be checked out for in-building use only.

      • Bound volumes (found in the Stacks) may not be checked out.

      • Microfilm volumes (found on the second floor) may not be checked out.

    • Reference books (from the Reference area on the first floor) may be used only in the Reference area.

    • Reserve materials (available from the Periodicals/Reserves Desk on the second floor) have variable check out restrictions. Please inquire when you use them.

  • Special Collections and University Archives materials may only be used in the Special Collections room on the seventh floor.
